D Rosen operates from the position that questions of animality are not binary but rather a tangle of ecologies and richly complicated identities framed by culture. Rosen attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2018, received an MFA from the University of Chicago in 2013, and a BFA from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 2011. Rosen has exhibited at the Gaylord & Dorothy Donnelley Foundation, Chicago Manual Style, Julius Caesar, Roots & Culture (Chicago, IL), Rowe Gallery at UNCC (Charlotte, NC), The Green Gallery (Milwaukee, WI), HEIMA (Seyðisfjörður, Iceland), GallerySKE (Delhi, India), and Counterpath (Denver, CO). Residencies include ACRE (Steuben, WI), JOYA (Los Vélez, Spain), TESSELLATE (Pontiac, MI), and Vermont Studio Center (Johnson, VT). Publications include Olfactory Art and the Political in an Age of Resistance (Routledge), A Trace of Fashioned Violence (Aalborg, Denmark), Emergency Index VII (Ugly Duckling Presse), and Institute for Species Systemization: An Experimental Archive (Rescue Press). Recent public programs include Ancestral Rhythms of the Harvest in collaboration with Smita Sen, Anaïs Duplan, and Marcela Torres, Socrates Sculpture Park x Recess (Long Island City, NY), Interspecies Scent Rituals, Cleve Carney Museum of Art (Glen Ellyn, IL), and Uncommon Senses Panel, Centre for Sensory Studies (Montreal, Canada). Since 2018, Rosen has been learning to craft incense by hand, and they are currently offering personalized grieving rituals for non-human animals at heavy lavender. In 2022, Rosen has an upcoming exhibition at ExGirlfriend (Berlin, Germany) and plans to live temporarily on a Sheep farm in Midtre Gauldal, Norway.
